About the Instructor
William James Woolf
I have been teaching landscape painting courses and workshops in Italy since 2000. I first discovered Santu Lussurgiu and the Montiferru area of Sardinia in 2002, while I was still living and teaching art in Florence, Italy. I found the Montiferru landscape was such perfect place to paint that I bought a home here so I could return on semester breaks and all the summer. I moved to Santu Lussurgiu full-time in 2005 so I could paint the landscape of Sardinia all the time, in all seasons. My love of this landscape, the culture, and its people are so strong that I must, as an artist, live here in Sardinia. I believe my affection for this place also makes a difference in my workshops. I know the land, its nuances, the effect of seasonal changes on it, as well as both the secret and the not so secret locations for painting this unique area.
I studied art at The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago as well as receiving an M.F.A. in Studio Art from Florida State University. I have taught landscape painting, drawing, digital photography, web design, and Photo shop among many other subjects, in both the United States and Italy, and was the Dean of Students of an art institute in Florence, Italy before moving to Sardinia.
